August 1944 Museum - The Battle of Normandy

Located in the bottom of a green valley at the foot of the Castle William the Conqueror, The Août 1944 Museum was created in 1987, in Falaise, to commemorate the terrible events of the last part of the Battle of Normandy, known as the “Falaise pocket”, that General Eisenhower was to describe it as “one of the greatest bloodbaths of the war”.

The museum highlighted, via an historical itinerary designed by Eddy Florentin and Joël Tanter, a unique private collection of heavy materials left in th battlefield, weapons, 30 vehicles, mannequins in uniforms, diorama of Falaise’s liberation, and many original photographs.
