Vendeuvre, 18th century jewel of Normandy. In the Orangery of the castle is the museum of miniature furniture, the first collection in the world. This small-scale panorama of the decorative arts from the 16th century to the Art Deco period includes more than 700 pieces of furniture and thousands of small objects. It was at the age of seven that Elyane de Vendeuvre first admired a small 18th century secretary in the home of an elderly aunt. Fascinated by the child’s passion for this masterpiece, her aunt gave it to her for her 18th birthday. This was the starting point of the collection. The surprising dimensions of this miniature furniture both fascinate and confuse … The diversity of shapes and scales, the multiplicity of materials used (wood, wax, clay, paper, leather, bronze, ceramics…) and the variety of mechanisms prove that there are many reasons for creating this furniture. We classify them in 6 main categories: – models or maquettes – masterpieces or companionship – relaxation – tableware works – religious furniture – childhood furniture. Exhibition: At the table in the 18th century
